Kristin Zimmerman, LMSW, is a licensed clinical social worker in private practice providing therapy to individuals and families in Southwest Michigan. With over 20 years of experience, her practice blends evidence-based treatment with real-world insight to help clients in the Kalamazoo area move toward mental health and emotional wellness.
She holds a Master of Social Work from Western Michigan University (2000) and has provided therapy services in domestic violence shelters, substance use programs, community mental health agencies, and school systems.
Kristin began her career providing intensive in-home and crisis support services in Detroit, and later in the Kalamazoo and Battle Creek areas. In 2012, she founded her private practice with the goal of offering accessible, meaningful therapy tailored to the needs of her community. Her work is grounded in trauma-informed care, family systems theory, and collaborative healing.
Today, Kristin focuses on helping older adolescents, adults, and families work through anxiety, depression, addiction, codependency, estrangement, and other relationship challenges. As a Kalamazoo therapist, she creates a welcoming, nonjudgmental space for clients to explore their experiences and gain deeper insight into themselves.
Kristin’s therapeutic style blends warmth and curiosity with evidence-based techniques. She works closely with clients to build emotional resilience, improve communication, and develop coping skills that support long term mental wellness.
Her perspective draws from contemporary psychology and trauma-informed care, focusing on how thought patterns, behaviors, and relationships influence mental health.
Whether addressing individual concerns or navigating complex family dynamics, her approach is thoughtful, personalized, and grounded in practical strategies.
Beyond private practice, Kristin partners with Communities In Schools to provide in-school counseling services for Kalamazoo Public Schools. The role allows her to continue engaging directly with young people and families who may not otherwise have access to mental health support. She’s proud to be a part of the broader Kalamazoo mental health network and believes every student and family deserves access to supportive care.
Outside of the office, Kristin enjoys outdoor activities like walking trails with her dog, biking, and skiing. She’s also passionate about film, theater, literature, and spending time with her two college-aged children.
